To raise empathetic and emotionally healthy children, they need to see both themselves and those that don't look like them in books.
We "scatter joy" by spreading books to little free libraries throughout the U.S. Since 2021, we've donated to over 1000 libraries and given over 4,200 books.

Donating books to Little Free Libraries would not be possible without the generosity of the following organizations:
hindislibraries.org
Started in memory of Dr. Hindi Krinsky, a high school English teacher who shared her love of books with her students as well as her young family, Hindis has grown since 2018 into an international organization. They send me several boxes per year of new and gently used books. Because of them, I've been the neighborhood "Book Fairy" each Halloween.

spotlightee.org
A Chicago suburban organization that focuses on local candidates and issues, they did a book drive and became ambassadors for Scattering Joy during Black History month, helping me distribute to over 30 little free libraries.
Given the struggles local libraries are facing, they also hosted a "Get Caught Reading" event to support public libraries.
Anything you might want to know about little free libraries is on this website. It got me started on my project and the app is what I use to find new libraries. It is especially useful when I travel.
Thanks, Friends and Family
So many friends donated boxes of books to Scattering Joy. Special thanks to Libby, Katie B, Katie S, Char, Andrea, Laurie, Kathy, Erin, Darcy, Ann and Paul, Jeff and Linda, Claudia, Jerry and Max.
Thanks for my ambassadors, who help me share books especially Claudia and Jerry, Katie and Jim, as well as and the team from Spotlight. Thanks to those who ride along with me, whether on bike or car: Renee C, Renee W, Beth, Emma, Cole and Mom. Special appreciation to my husband Steve, who stops wherever we are vacationing so I can scatter some joy. There's always a bag or two of books in the car. |
